Shaun the Sheep Review

About.com Rating two out of Five

From About.com

The Bottom Line

Shaun the Sheep is an adorable, approachable game for younger players or fans of television series. The point-and-click gameplay, however, is shallow at best, and the entire adventure only lasts about an hour.

Pros

  • Cute aesthetic helps capture the tone of the Shaun the Sheep TV series on which the game is based.
  • Gameplay is easy to understand with a minimal learning curve.

Cons

  • Playing is almost too simple, with little to no challenge for those who can follow a map.
  • The minigames interspersed throughout Shaun the Sheep are standard, unoriginal DS fare.
  • With only an hour of gameplay, it’s hard to justify this game’s $29.99 price tag.

Description

  • Help Shaun find his fellow sheep, whom the farmer has accidentally let out of the pen.
  • Use the stylus to point and click to wear you’d like to go. Once there, click again to find sheep.
  • Play occasional minigames, like a sheep cleaning game that gets Shaun free of farm mud, in between sheep spottings.
  • Follow the map to keep around the farm.

Guide Review - Shaun the Sheep Review

Though cute and easy to play, Shaun the Sheep disappoints with its compact length and lack of replay potential. A spin-off of the series of shorts running on the Disney channel, this games shares the distinctive aesthetic of Nick Park’s other projects, like Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run, that clay animation look. It even keeps some of the slapstick humor, as Shaun searches for his fellow flock-mates behind bushes, in tool sheds, etc. This game won’t keep a kid, let alone an adult, entertained for too long though, as its simple gameplay comes down to little more than pointing and clicking. Even the minigames, which crop up from time to time when the player spots a sheep, are largely unoriginal, standard fare for the DS that don’t add much to the overall game.
