Your Nintendo DS Lite deserves to live in a palace. The Nintendo DS Lite Collectible Tin Starter Kit series by Bensussen Deutsch & Associates has everything you need to make sure your DS Lite can travel and rest in style. However, older DS Lite owners might want to veer away from the bright colors and opt for a more conservative means of storing their rig.

Looks Good

As its name suggests, the Nintendo DS Lite Collectible Tin Starter Kit is handsome and packed with useful accessories. The shell is done up in the style of a classic tin lunchbox, decorated with artwork of select characters starring in various Nintendo DS games. Some familiar faces include Princess Peach, Super Mario, Spongebob Squarepants, and the cast of the Lego Star Wars games. The lunchbox's color schemes match up with the character designs as well: For instance, Peach's tin is pink, whereas Mario's is red.

Protects Well

Various DS Lite-related goodies are packed inside the tin, including two silicone game cases, decorative stickers, headphones, a car adapter, three colored styluses, two screen protectors, and a vinyl carrying case with a design that correlates to the character featured on the box. The carrying case can clip to a belt loop, or it can be held with a strap sewn onto its back. It's well padded to protect your DS Lite from any unfortunate falls or spills.

Not Perfect

The Nintendo DS Lite Collectible Tin is sturdy and attractive, and corrals a bunch of useful accessories for a reasonable asking price ($29.99 USD). There are, however, a few drawbacks that might turn off a few Nintendo DS Lite owners. The whole ensemble is great for a kid, but the cartoony designs won't appeal to adults, except collectors. Most professionals wouldn't be caught dead on the subway with a Mario carrying case dangling from their belts.

The carrying case has room for the DS Lite, but no pockets for games. Moreover, the character design on the front of the case, though sewn on fast, feels like a plastic sticker.

The inside of the tin contains a plastic shell that holds all the accessories together. The shell is not easily removed without accidentally crushing or damaging it, so keep that in mind if you decide to use the tin for your lunch.

The sound quality through the cool-looking headphones is fine, but they clip behind the ears as two separate pieces and lack any kind of plastic “wrap-around” support. Some users (myself included) might have trouble with this particular model.

For the Kids and Collectors

Despite these drawbacks, the solid appeal of the Nintendo DS Lite Collectible Tins is undeniable. If you know a young Nintendo DS Lite owner, they'll love one (make sure they actually own a Nintendo DS Lite, though—it's not included with the set!). Even if you can't find any use out of the accessories, your shelf will look prettier for having one.
