The Nintendo 3DS is doing moderately well in North America, but it's unquestionably mopping the floor with the competition in Japan. In fact, sales of the Nintendo 3DS overseas (8,799,378) recently surpassed sales of the PlayStation 3 (8,716,260). For comparison's sake, the 3DS has been out for just under two years in Japan, whereas the PlayStation 3 is six years old.
Here are Japan's sales numbers broken down by console. The numbers on the left tally hardware sales for the week of December 3, while the bracketed numbers are the systems' lifetime sales.
