Fans of New Super Mario Bros 2 are still stuffing their pockets full of the jingly stuff. According to Nintendo, over 300 billion coins have been collected in total. That's a lot of shiny stuff!
Nintendo is countering our coin-hoarding selfishness by offering a free downloadable Gold Classics Pack for New Super Mario Bros 2. The Pack features three new Coin Rush levels that are inspired by classic stages from Mario games of old. Now you can go treasure hunting in World 1-1 and 1-2 from the original Super Mario Bros, to say nothing of 1-1 from Super Mario Bros 3. There are other levels as well, and even a few surprises.
The Gold Classics Pack is free to download through January 31 2013. Once the freemium window closes, you can expect to dish out $2.50 for the download.
