The Nintendo 3DS XL and New Super Mario Bros. 2 both hit the market in late August, but that was more than enough time for both products to make their marks. According to a press release distributed by Nintendo earlier this week, New Super Mario Bros. 2 was August's best-selling game with over 240,000 units sold. Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance was number two with over 180,000 copies sold.
Though Nintendo has yet to release official sales numbers for the 3DS XL, the press release mentions that consumers have been driven to buy accompanying games like Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Kid Icarus Uprising for the novelty of seeing said titles on the big screen.
August is typically a slow month for video game sales in general, so it's good to see that 2012's summer was a fertile season for the pastime.
