Weep, O fans of the printed word. Nintendo Power, the gaming magazine that been with Nintendo fans since its conception nearly 25 years ago, will breathe its last by the end of the year.
Nintendo handed production of the magazine to Future Publishing in 2007, where it continued to thrive for a time. Unfortunately, Future must give up producing Nintendo Power, and it doesn't look like Nintendo is interested in taking back the brand.
A statement distributed earlier by Nintendo confirms the magazine's end, and marks December 2012's issue as the last one. Rumor has it that Nintendo's latest console, the Wii U, hits shelves this Holiday season, so maybe we can expect some killer coverage as Nintendo Power's life dwindles away.
As a steady collector of the magazine, I'll be saying more about its end in the near future. For now though, I want to say "Thank You" to Nintendo Power for bringing me news, previews, and a few wacky comics through the infancy of the NES all the way up to the birth of the Wii U. Maybe, just maybe, a digital alternative will rise from the ashes.
