So, what's Cave Story? Cave Story (Japanese name: Dokutsu Monogatari) is one of the most celebrated indie games of all time. Originally programmed for the PC and still available as a free download for anyone who wants it, Cave Story features tonnes of platforming action in addition to intense gunning, jumping, and exploration. It was all put together by one man who calls himself "Pixel." And now it's coming to the Nintendo DSiWare shop.

The latest issue of Nintendo Power made the reveal, and Nintendo Life fleshed out the announcement with a little more information. Nicalis is the company handling the release (it handled the WiiWare version of the game, which was released in March). Supposedly, the conversion is done, and is in final testing. We should see Cave Story for the Nintendo DSi later this fall.

Wait! so your saying THIS app is going to be free? or that the P.C. version is free?

Oh, the PC version is free. :) There’s no price on the DS version yet, but chances are good you’ll be asked to pay something. I think the WiiWare version of the game was something like 800 Nintendo Points, or 1000, but the game came with a lot of extras that weren’t available on PC. I’m not sure if the DS version will have extras, or how much you’ll be asked to pay.
